The application period for the 2019 Land Accelerator closed on July 8. We received 335 applications for our 2019 cohort! We are impressed by the bold and innovative ways these entrepreneurs are working to restore degraded forests and farmland across Africa.
This year’s applicant pool is a highly diverse group of entrepreneurs from a variety of countries, sectors, and backgrounds. Some key statistics about the 2019 applicant pool:
Applicants hail from 33 countries across Africa. Kenya has the highest number of applicants, followed by Cameroon, Ghana, Niger and Uganda.
The businesses are at different stages of growth, with 26% in the idea stage and 25% post-revenue.
Around half of this year’s applicants (49%) are in the sustainable agriculture sector. 23% are focused on reforestation, followed by 13% in sustainable forestry.
